The Basic RiderCourse
See if motorcycle riding is for you, no matter what your skill
level. This three day basic rider course offers you a point and
insurance reduction along with a road test waiver. You must be 16 years
of age or older. Both 16 and 17 year olds must have parents permission.
All candidates must:
- Possess a valid NYS Driver's License (class D or higher)
- Possess a NYS motorcycle permit
- Attend course in its entirety
- Successfully pass knowledge written test
- Successfully pass skills evaluation
Your instructors are all Nationally Certified by the Motorcycle
Safety Foundation (MSF), State Certified by the Motorcycle Association
of NYS (MANYS), and possess the knowledge, patience and expertise that
will assist you in learning basic skills like straight line riding,
turning, shifting, and stopping. Once accomplished, you will progress
onto cornering, swerving, advanced / emergency braking, speed selection
and more. The classroom time offers information that includes but is
not limited to the use of drugs and alcohol and their negative impact
on drivers / riders, the use of protective riding gear and different
riding strategies to use in a variety of situations.
We will provide both the motorcycles and helmets. The course is a
total of 20 hours long spread over a 3 day period. The first day is
from 6-10pm, the second and third are from 8am - 5pm. Classes are held
rain or shine and depending on the weather, class time could run over.
